Family Intensives in Los Angeles
A private half-day or full day for a family ready to stop circling the same hurt.
Families rarely come apart over one thing. It’s the same old roles, replayed every holiday.
The sibling who keeps the peace. The parent who still gives advice no one asked for. The adult child who goes quiet and leaves early. Everyone can see the pattern, and no one can step out of it alone.
A family intensive gives you a few protected hours together, with a therapist whose job is to slow things down so each person is heard and something can actually change.
How it works
Before.
A complimentary consultation with whoever is reaching out, then a private conversation with each person taking part.
The day.
Three hours, or a full day with a break for lunch, held in my Encino or Studio City office or at home through my concierge practice. The day can be held in English, Armenian, or both. Ask about online options.
After.
We meet again about a month later to see what has held, and talk about whether ongoing family or individual therapy would help.
How the day unfolds
- First, what each person hopes for. Everyone says what they want from the day, and what they’re worried will happen.
- Then, the pattern. We name the roles each person plays and how the same argument keeps starting.
- Then, one real conversation. We take one live issue and work through it slowly, with room for each person to be heard.
- To finish. What has shifted, what each person will try, and how you’ll know it’s working.
On a full day, each part gets more time.
Who it’s for
- Parents and adult children who keep having the same painful conversation
- Adult siblings whose old roles still run the room
- Blended families finding their way after a marriage or remarriage
- Families after a loss, a divorce, or a long silence, who want to be closer again
Family Intensive or Family Meeting?
A Family Meeting is for one decision your family has to make, such as a parent’s care, an estate, or a business. A Family Intensive is therapy for the relationships underneath. Not sure which fits? We’ll work it out on the consultation call.
Therapy, not a referee
This is family therapy, concentrated into one day. No one is put on trial, and the goal isn’t to decide who was right.
It isn’t the right format if anyone is unsafe at home, or if someone is in crisis. If that’s the case, I’ll say so after our first conversations and suggest what would serve your family better.
Questions
Who needs to come?
Usually everyone the pattern involves, though not always on the first day. We decide together after the first conversations.
Can we keep our own therapists?
Yes. With your consent, I can be in touch with them before and after the day.
Is it in person?
Yes, in Encino, Studio City, or your home through my concierge practice. Ask about online options.
What does it cost?
Family intensives are private pay, and I share fees on the consultation call.
Begin with a conversation
A complimentary 15-minute phone consultation with whoever is reaching out for the family. We’ll talk about who is involved and whether an intensive is the right step.
